A Renewed Commitment to Writing

750wordsTomorrow NaNoWriMo begins. My kids will be going into it full force. I will not be writing a novel, as that is not my gig, but I will make a different commitment.

I have been dabbling in 750words.com for a few months now, thanks to a recommendation by my fabulous coach Berni Xiong. It is an electronic version of the morning pages, as recommended by the wonderful Julia Cameron in her classic book, The Artist’s Way. Julia suggests writing longhand in a notebook – I did that for a while, but it just didn’t work for me. I’m a typing kind of gal.

So, with my usual enthusiasm, I hit 750words.com like a typhoon. I wrote with gay abandon, and it was a lot of fun. Then, as I often do, I trickled off. I signed up for the monthly challenges and then I screwed up on the first or second day. Sadness galore.

You can see from the image that my longest streak, among 86 days of writing, was 41 days. Oy vey. It made me feel such a failure. I call myself a writer, and I can’t even write 750 words a day on a consistent basis?

So here is my November writing pledge: I’m going to try it again. This time I’m going to make it onto the Wall of Awesomeness. Not that I give a hoot about anybody’s wall, but just for myself.

Actually, no, I’m not going to try. I’m going to do it. Or not. There is no try. How about you?
