#BlogElul 6: Want

This evening I was on an amazing call with my coach, Karen Fagan, and a group of other women. Among other things, we discussed the importance of deciding what you want.

It seems pretty obvious, doesn’t it? And yet, a remarkable number of people don’t know what they want. They might be very clear on what they don’t want, and wonder why life keeps handing them exactly that thing they don’t want.

Of course it isn’t enough just to want something – you have to take steps to make it happen. But your actions will follow from your clarity and focus on what you want.

If you don’t know what you want, one of two things is likely to happen, depending on your personality type. You may run around like a headless chicken with no direction or focus, or you may be completely paralysed into inaction, and spend your life scrolling through social media or binge-watching Netflix. In either case, you will achieve very little that satisfies you.

One of the joys of my company has been the easy accessibility of excellent training on mindset and focus. The quote below, The Four Laws of Focus, comes from one of those training programs, by Rod Hairston.

What you focus on grows.
What you focus on seems real.
What you focus on you find,
and what you focus on, ultimately, you become.

If you focus on the negative, that is what you will see, and it will become your reality. This is why it is so important to be crystal clear on what you want, so you can focus on achieving it.

What do you want?
