Gun Control #2 – Getting Started

Gun, October 12Welcome to the second day of Gun Control! Yesterday I took some measurements – my right bicep is currently 31.5 cm around. Yes, it’s not a pretty picture. I also weigh 62.7 kg – that’s almost 138 lbs, at 152 cm, or 5 foot nothing. Ouch. Work to be done.

I’ve acquired a push-up app – click on the picture to get it from the Apple store, if you want to join me. I’m starting pretty easy, with push-ups from my knees, at the beginner level. I figure I can always move up from there.

The plan is to follow the app’s programming three days a week, with kettlebell and Olympic lifting on the other two weekdays, rounded out with as much walking as I can possibly fit in. I used to run on a regular basis, but I rarely do now, unless the spirit moves me. I get my endorphins from lifting.

I did 20 push-ups!

The most important part, of course, is nutrition. That’s where the big wins are in terms of fat reduction, which is what I’m trying to do here. If you’ve been following this blog for any length of time, you know that I am a big fan of my nutritional support system, and that is what I am going to use for this project.

This morning’s breakfast consisted of a kosher vanilla shake, made with some extra whey protein, and a lovely protein latte made of Isagenix coffee, frothed up with a scoop of the kosher vanilla shake. Yum, that will keep me going for a while.Yummy protein latte!

After dropping the kids off at school, I hit the gym for some HIIT (high intensity interval training) sprints on the treadmill, walking and push-ups, before starting my day of coaching, meetings and writing.

Lunch was a peanut butter sandwich and some cheese, and dinner included a nice local pickerel stir-fry, spinach and rice. There may have been a small piece of leftover birthday cake.

The following motivational image was made by Karen Salmansohn. I’m considering printing it out and hanging it on my wall, or maybe on the front of my refrigerator. What do you think?
